Top singer Geeta Jhala, known for her versatility and powerful live performances, will perform the Indian national anthem ahead of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final match between India and Australia at the Kennington Oval in London. Will start Wednesday. Geeta will be the first Gujarati singer to receive this honor from the ICC.
Rahul Munjaria along with Jhala will compose the music for the national anthem. Munjariya has vast experience lending itself seamlessly to classical and western music.
Who is Geeta Jhala?
Geeta rose to fame for her title track in the 2015 Bollywood film ‘Welcome Back’. Not only classical music, but Geeta Jhala is also known for giving hit songs in Punjabi and Bollywood music. Among the many songs sung by Jhala are the murni refix, “Raanjhanaa,” “Aaja Mahi,” “Oh Miss,” and “Thodi Vaar.” The singer’s most recent song ‘Patodu’ with Kritidan Gadhvi showcased her versatility in western style and Indian folk music.
How did Geeta Jhala start her singing career?
Geeta Jhala found early fame in 2012 for BBC Asian Network with her spin on the Punjabi MC’s international hit ‘Murni’, which ruled the Asian Network charts for several months in her native London.
She later moved to Mumbai and continued to make more independent music in the Bollywood industry over the years with the title track ‘Welcome Back’ featuring superstar Mika Singh.
Geeta Jhala has collaborated in both studio and live performances with artists such as Millind Gaba, Imran Khan, Honey Singh and Atif Aslam, among many others.
Along with Mika Singh, Geeta Jhala has performed at prestigious world stages such as the O2 and Wembley Arena in London, the Staples Center in California, the Olympic Stadium in Australia and other arenas around the world. She also performed at the televised ITA Awards in 2015 which was aired on Colors TV and was a guest on Sony Television’s ‘Comedy Circus’ in 2016 along with Mika Singh and Navraj Hans.
Geeta Jhala will perform after the toss for the WTC final which is scheduled for 230pm IST. The national anthem will of course be sung before the first ball of the match is bowled at 3 pm Indian time.
