Wrestler Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik met Anurag Thakur after minister’s late night call

New Delhi: Wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik on Wednesday met Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur to discuss the issues raised by them during their month-long protest following a fresh proposal. The wrestlers met Thakur at his residence in the national capital, hours after the minister called him late at night. Some of India’s top wrestlers are protesting against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is also a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, and demanding his arrest for alleged sexual harassment.

In a tweet posted after midnight on Wednesday, Anurag Thakur said the government was ready to discuss their issues with the wrestlers.

In January this year, the wrestlers had met Anurag Thakur at his residence and called off their protest after the committee was formed. This is also the second round of meeting between the government and the protesting wrestlers, who met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Olympic medalist Sakshi Malik said they would discuss the government’s offer of talks and take a decision by consensus.

“We will discuss the proposal made by the government with our seniors and supporters. When everyone gives their consent that the proposal is correct, then only we will agree. It will not happen that we end up agreeing to anything the government says.” Our protest,” Malik told news agency ANI.

The Delhi Police has recorded statements of his colleagues and those who worked at his residence in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda in connection with the probe into allegations of sexual harassment against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. Officials gave this information on Tuesday.

He also said that the girl whose statement was the basis of the case registered against Singh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, has recorded a fresh statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC). .

Officials said the police is collecting evidence in connection with the case registered against the BJP MP and will submit a report to the court accordingly. Over 125 people, including family members and associates of both sides, have reportedly been questioned and their statements recorded. According to various reports, Singh has also been questioned twice.
