At next week’s WWDC, many believe Apple will unveil its first mixed-reality headset. Despite Apple’s announcement of a new Mixed Reality (MR) gadget, it appears that Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has beaten Apple to the punch. The MR Glass Developer Edition was showcased at Oppo’s booth at the Augmented World Expo AWE 2023.
To encourage more people to become developers and pursue the XR technology, OPPO has announced that the MR Glasses will be made available in China as an official Snapdragon Space development kit. Availability of the MR Glass as a Snapdragon Spaces development kit in China, distributed by EnlightXR, is scheduled for the second half of 2023. However, Oppo has not made any official announcement regarding the possible availability of MR Glass for developers in other countries.

The Snapdragon® XR2+ platform enables the OPPO MR Glasses to incorporate advanced features such as heart rate sensing and SuperVOOC rapid charging. The use of XR technologies has led to significant progress in interaction and information access. The MR glasses are designed with skin-friendly materials and include binocular VPT (Video Pass Through) technology, dual front RGB cameras, pancake lenses, and a high refresh rate of 120Hz. What sets MR Glass apart is its ability to seamlessly merge the virtual and real worlds, opening up endless possibilities for creative expression in a variety of environments.

In his keynote address, Yi Xu, Director of XR Technology, OPPO, underlined the importance of OPPO MR Glass as a cutting-edge achievement, emphasizing the integration of advanced functionalities of the Snapdragon space to empower developers. Over the years, Oppo has been actively involved in the development of augmented reality glasses, releasing several iterations including the AR Glass 2021, Air Glass and Air Glass 2. These products have evolved from OPPO’s initial AR concept, the AR Glasses. Which was introduced in 2019.
