New Delhi: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday urged the Center to intervene to ensure that the water level of the Yamuna, which is flowing at an all-time high of 207.55 meters in Delhi, does not rise further, saying there were reports of flooding. Capital will not send a ‘good message’ to the world. In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo requested that water be released from the Hathinikund barrage in Haryana at a “limited pace”.
“Delhi is the national capital and is set to host the G-20 summit in a few weeks. The news of floods in the national capital will not send a good message to the world. We have to save it together.” People of Delhi from this situation,” Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Amit Shah.
He said that according to the estimates of the Central Water Commission, the level of Yamuna will reach 207.72 meters on Wednesday night, which is a matter of “grave” concern.

He wrote, “It is my humble request to you that if possible water should be released from Hathinikund barrage in Haryana at a limited rate so that the level of Yamuna in Delhi does not rise further.”

Not good news for Delhi: Kejriwal on rise in Yamuna’s water level
Arvind Kejriwal also shared an update on Yamuna water level on Twitter and said, “Central Water Commission has predicted 207.72 meters water level in Yamuna tonight. Not good news for Delhi.”
“It has not rained in Delhi for the last two days. However, the Yamuna’s level is rising due to unusually high release of water by Haryana from Hathinikund Barrage.
“Urge the Center to intervene and ensure that Yamuna level does not rise further. Highest flood level 207.49 meters (in 1978). Current level is 207.55 metres,” he tweeted.

Section 144 has been imposed in flood-affected areas of Delhi due to rising water level of Yamuna.
Delhi Police on Wednesday imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC in flood-prone areas of the city as Yamuna river rose to 207.55 metres, breaking the record of 207.49 meters set in 1978.
Section 144 of the CrPC prohibits unlawful assembly of four or more persons and public movement in groups.
The Delhi Disaster Management Authority issued an advisory asking people to move to safer places and cautioned them against passing through low-lying areas.0
It added that since the Yamuna river continues to flood, people should stay away from power lines and contact the helpline 1077 in case of any need.
According to officials, Garhi Mandu village near Signature Bridge in Wazirabad has been submerged. Most of the people have been shifted to a safer place and the rest are being rescued with the help of boats, he added.
According to the flood-monitoring portal of the Central Water Commission, the Yamuna’s water level at the Old Railway Bridge crossed the 207-metre mark at 4 am on Wednesday, for the first time since 2013. It increased to 207.55 meters by 1 pm.
An official of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department said that the water level is likely to rise further.
