Given the unpredictable nature of the weather, there is a strong chance of rain in the final of IPL 2023. A recent game at the venue suffered heavy rain and wind, resulting in a 30-minute delay in the start. If the weather continues like this, then it can have an effect on the final match. Unfortunately, currently there is no information available regarding the reserve day for the IPL 2023 playoffs. This raises concerns about what would happen if a reserve day is not allotted.
As per the playing conditions of the IPL, during the league stage, the result of a match can only be decided after both teams have played a minimum of 5 overs using the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method. If the minimum number of overs is not met, the match is abandoned and both the teams get one point each.

The same rule applies to the final match as well. If weather conditions prevent a result, the winner will be determined based on their position in the points table. This means that if the final match ends without a result, the team with the higher position in the league stage will be declared the winner.
In the event of the 2022 IPL being played, an additional time allowance of 120 minutes was given for each playoff match. Therefore, considering the original match start time of 8 PM, the final match can start at 10:10 PM without reducing the overs. However, the exact start time and the existence of a reserve day for the final match are yet to be confirmed.
If the final match ends in a tie or no result, a Super Over will be played to determine the winner as per IPL rules. However, if circumstances do not permit a Super Over or subsequent Super Overs within the available time, the team standing first on the points table at the end of the round-robin matches shall be declared the winner of the final.
In the event that the final match is also affected by rain and a reserve day is scheduled (likely on 29 May, although this has not yet been confirmed), there will be an opportunity to play the match on that day. However, in case a game is not possible, the team topping the table will be awarded the final match and subsequently crowned the champions of IPL 2023.
