Raipur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is all set to contest the upcoming assembly and Lok Sabha elections in Chhattisgarh. The strategy is simple – to take on the current Congress government led by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel over corruption in the state. Where does Congress stand? Chhattisgarh has special importance for the Congress. The party has 71 MLAs in the 90-member assembly.
BJP has only 14. But out of 11 Lok Sabha seats, BJP has 9 MPs while Congress has only two. Congress is ahead of BJP in urban bodies and panchayats. Going by the current arithmetic of the constituencies, the Congress feels strong in the state and is expected to form the government again later this year.
The BJP is going all out to campaign in the state for the upcoming elections. Apart from state in-charge, state president and leader of opposition, national leaders have also increased their visits and activities in the state. Keeping in mind the upcoming elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh have visited the state recently.

The purpose of all these activities shows the seriousness of the BJP and to encircle the present Congress. Attackers on Congress From State President Arun Sao to former Chief Minister Raman Singh, all these BJP leaders are continuously attacking the Congress government.
The BJP’s attack has been strong and consistent, highlighting alleged corruption in coal transport, liquor, sand and other sectors. Meanwhile, BJP also had to face some problems. His attempt to launch a movement against the Congress did not get the support he expected from the general public.
Political analysts say that this is one of the reasons why the national leadership has indirectly taken over the reins of the state leadership. But whether corruption alone will be enough for the BJP to fight and win against the Baghel-led government, remains to be seen.
