As the India vs Pakistan match draws closer, Ahmedabad has seen a significant increase in airfares, especially for flights between Delhi-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Ahmedabad on October 14, a day before the match. A one-way direct flight from Delhi to Ahmedabad or Mumbai to Ahmedabad now costs between Rs 15,000 and Rs 22,000, more than six times the normal rates. Despite booking three months in advance, passengers are facing exorbitant prices, with economy class tickets costing around Rs 3,000 in August and September, but rising to Rs 20,000 on match days.
Unprecedented demand for flight tickets and accommodation
The announcement of the India vs Pakistan match has led to an increase in demand for flight tickets and searches on travel websites. Nishant Pitti, CEO and co-founder of EaseMyTrip, has highlighted the “all-time high” demand for travel, with airfares reaching six times their normal rates. Many people eager to attend the match have already started booking their tickets, leading to a surge in searches and bookings on travel websites.
“Even if people book three months in advance, the airfare is six times more expensive than normal. An economy class Delhi-Ahmedabad ticket in August and September will cost around INR 3000. But the same ticket a day before the match would cost Rs 20,000,” Pitti was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.
“Demand for flight tickets and searches on our website have reached an all-time high. Most of the people interested in watching the match have already started booking tickets.”
10-fold increase in hotel prices for cricket world cup match
The confirmation of the India vs Pakistan match has also led to a significant increase in hotel prices in Ahmedabad. Hotel room rates have increased nearly tenfold, despite many rooms having already been sold out for the day. Some luxury hotels are charging up to Rs 100,000 per night, while their normal rates are Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000. The combination of the cricket match and the upcoming Navratri holiday in Gujarat, which begins on the same day, has fueled demand for travel to Ahmedabad, leading to a sharp rise in hotel prices.
