Team India and West Indies are all set to take part in a five-match T20I series starting from August 3 in Taruba. The Indian team will be led by all-rounder Hardik Pandya, but the West Indies are yet to announce their squad for the series.
In what could be great news for the two-time T20 World Cup champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell could be available for a comeback into the Caribbean team. Russell had declared himself available for the T20 World Cup 2022 qualifiers ahead of the main tournament, but was not picked by West Indies selector Desmond Haynes and former head coach Phil Simmons. In T20 World Cup 2022 also West Indies failed to qualify for the main tournament.
West Indies have also not shamefully failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023 for the first time in their history. They also lost the first Test against India in Dominica by an innings and 141 runs.

Russell is currently playing for the Los Angeles Knight Riders in the Major League Cricket (MLC) tournament. “I’m available. I want to be a part of the next World Cup, so if they can get me in the squad, that would be special for me,” Russell was quoted as saying by the Jamaica Observer newspaper.

“I am ready to play a few series to keep myself available. I am not going to just come and say that I want to play in the World Cup at all. I know how everything works; I know I will have to sacrifice some leagues to play for the West Indies. I’m willing to do that and try to give them the best chance they can at the World Cup, and I’m willing to contribute in whatever area I can,” Russell said.
Russell, who scored 42 off 26 balls against the San Francisco Unicorns on Wednesday, confirmed that he wants to play in the T20I series against India. “There is a series coming up in India that I want to be a part of but no one has told me anything and I am just minding my own business. I’m just doing what I do – still training hard,” Russell said.
Russell has a strike rate of 156 in 67 T20I matches so far and has also taken 39 wickets. He was part of the T20 World Cup 2016 winning team led by Darren Sammy.
