Talented fast bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, unfortunately, could not make it to the playing XI for the second Test match between India and West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. This absence was due to his injury, specifically left groin pain, as confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) through its Twitter update.

In place of Shardul, the visitors decided to include Bengal fast bowler Mukesh Kumar in the playing XI. Mukesh made his India debut with impressive performances in the domestic circuit.
Addressing the situation at the time of the toss, team captain Rohit Sharma gave an update on Shardul’s injury, stating that he was unfit to take part in the match. He said, “We were looking to bat first. Feeling good and sunny. It is getting slower and slower. Shardul has a bit of a problem. He is not fit. Mukesh Kumar is going to make his debut. Have worked hard in domestic cricket. Lots of memories, it’s always exciting to watch the rivalry between the two teams. It’s always been a tough tour, you have to work hard. Even in the last game we had to work hard Had to do it, especially the batsmen. Hopefully we will be successful.” The result we hope for.”
Rohit also shared insights on the team’s strategy, mentioning that they were looking forward to bat first taking advantage of the sunny conditions and were expecting the pitch to slow down as the game progressed.
With regard to the pitch, broadcasters report that the 22-yard strip is firm with no grass, which is expected to assist spinners a lot when the match starts. India currently lead the two-match series 1-0 after an innings and 141-run win over the West Indies in the Dominica Test.
