Former India captain and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a very private person and gives very little information about his personal life. But the Bollywood film ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ gave a rare insight into the personal life of ‘Mahi’ off the field.
The world came to know about Dhoni’s first girlfriend – Priyanka Jha, played by Bollywood star Disha Patani. Their relationship began in 2002 when Dhoni was trying to establish himself in the Indian cricket team. Dhoni wanted to spend the rest of his life with Priyanka Jha but was soon selected in the India ‘A’ team to tour Zimbabwe and Kenya in 2003–04.
Dhoni scored 362 runs in that India ‘A’ tri-series with Pakistan ‘A’, including two centuries against the arch-rivals, to reach the brink of Team India selection. However, Dhoni’s world soon fell apart even before he could be selected in the senior India team.

Priyanka Jha died in a road accident
While Dhoni was abroad, Priyanka Jha died in a tragic road accident. Not much is known about Jha’s family or profession apart from what was shown in the film starring late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Director Neeraj Pandey took permission from Dhoni to include Priyanka Jha opposite Disha Patani in the film.
MS Dhoni breaks down after Priyanka Jha’s death
It is believed that Dhoni took a long time to get over the loss of his first girlfriend Priyanka Jha. Dhoni spent a lot of time off the field and returned to cricket only after a long time before making his debut for Team India.
Disha Patani recently revealed that most of the characters in ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ were inspired from real life. “The casting of the film is inspired by real life characters. So, you will see Sakshi in Kiara or Dhoni in Sushant. I hope Dhoni sees Priyanka in me. I have also added my pinch to the character. I feel you cannot be technical every time and you should add your bit,” Disha Patani had said.
The film will re-release in India next month on July 7, Dhoni’s 42nd birthday. Dhoni married Sakhi Singh Rawat in 2010 and the two have a daughter, Ziva.
