Ahead of the much-anticipated World Test Championship final at The Oval, Virat Kohli made a detour to Wembley Stadium to watch the FA Cup final. Along with his wife, the former Indian captain was involved in the football spectacle. He was accompanied by Indian opener Shubman Gill, who made the trip to watch the thrilling game. Notably, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh traveled to England to get a taste of live action.
In a thrilling encounter, Manchester City beat Manchester United 2–1 to clinch the FA Cup title. As City sealed their victory, Kohli could not contain his excitement and cheered for the club with all his heart. A dedicated fan caught Kohli’s reaction on camera after Manchester City’s win. It was Manchester City’s seventh win in the FA Cup.

After the FA Cup final, Kohli immediately returned to The Oval and actively participated in the practice sessions on Sunday, 4 June. As one of India’s premier right-handed batsmen, Kohli played a key role in securing India’s place in the final, ranking as the team’s second-highest run-scorer during the 2021/23 WTC cycle. His contribution will undoubtedly be crucial in the upcoming finals.
Similarly, Gill will aim to carry on his exceptional form in the final. Initially sitting on the bench in the first two Tests against Australia earlier this year, Gill waited patiently for his chance while the team management backed KL Rahul. With Rahul running out of chances, Gill was finally included in the playing XI, where he showed his prowess by scoring a century in the Ahmedabad Test match. Along with Rohit Sharma, Gill will open the innings for India in the WTC final.
India’s strategy for the final is expected to include three pacers, two spinners (both of whom are all-rounders) and six batsmen. KS Bharath, who made his debut in the home series against Australia, has an edge over uncapped Ishan Kishan and is likely to retain his place in the playing XI. Meanwhile, Kishan remained on the bench for the entire four Test matches.
By attending the FA Cup final and immediately joining the squad for practice, Kohli and Gill demonstrated their commitment and preparation for the much-anticipated World Test Championship final. With his contribution and the team’s well-thought-out strategy, India aim to emerge victorious in this historic clash.
