Former Australia cricketer Greg Chappell believes the conditions at The Oval will suit star Indian batsman Virat Kohli as the Indian team prepares to face Australia in the World Test Championship final 2023. In less than three days, India will feature in its second consecutive WTC. Last. They missed out on a chance to win the title against New Zealand last time after a hard-fought battle. Last time around former India skipper Virat Kohli came close but fell short of his standards as he succumbed to the aggressive bowling style of Kyle Jamieson. He scored 57 runs in both innings at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton, England.

However, this time he would like to change things at a different time, a different venue and in great form. This time the match will be held at the Oval in London and according to Chappell, the conditions can be in favor of Kohli as the Australian bowlers will not be able to take advantage of the conditions like the English bowlers and he will score runs for his team.

Speaking on the Backstage With Boria show on Revsport Chappell, Chappell said, “Virat Kohli was asked a lot of questions by Anderson, Broad and the rest of the English bowlers in England in 2014 and 2021. He bowled some excellent lines and lengths to him. The conditions suited them. They knew they were the best and lifted themselves when bowling to them. To think or say that the Australians would be able to do it from the first ball is not correct. The Englishmen took their conditions to no one Knows better than else in the world. And Virat loves batting against Australia. We have seen this in Australia. His record is proof of how good he is. With Boria Show on Revsportz.
“From all my experience the Oval is going to be bouncy and will suit Virat. You told me the weather has been dry so far. If the weather stays dry then The Oval is as close to an Australia wicket as England will ever get. And he will suit Virat. I think if he is mentally switched on as I told you earlier in the conversation, he will score runs for India. He is a very good player and someone who can make A clear distinction.”
The former Australian cricketer also talked about Rohit’s form and whether his IPL form could affect his WTC performance. Even though in IPL 2023, Rohit performed slightly better than in IPL 2023. He scored 332 runs as compared to his 268 runs in IPL 2022.
However, the main concern that came into limelight with Rohit’s batting form was his inability to develop his innings into a big score.
On several occasions, the Indian skipper could time the ball well, find gaps but failed to register a big innings.
However, Chappell believes that his IPL form should not affect his WTC performance, it is all about the way Rohit feels. “Yes to Rohit I totally agree IPL is different. Weather, conditions, format, everything is different. And it’s not about what you or I or anyone else feels about his form . It’s everything Rohit feels. Does he have any doubts about himself? Or is he feeling good about going out and batting? If he’s in a good zone when he comes out, there’s no question That he will bat well. Yes good bowlers will ask him questions about bowling good balls but for Rohit it is no different than any other batsman. If he is in good mind then IPL form will not matter in this test match,” Chappell said.
