Film industry mourns the demise of veteran actress Sulochana Latkar as she passed away today at the age of 94. She was suffering from respiratory ailments and several other age-related problems for a long time and breathed her last at Sushrusha Hospital in Dadar.

Sulochana Latkar, better known by her screen name Sulochana, was a renowned actress who had a vast career in both Marathi and Hindi films. She was known for her performances in lead roles in Marathi films such as Sasurvas (1946), Vahinichya Bangadya (1953), Meetha Bhakar, Sangate Aika (1959) and Shakti Jau (1958). In Hindi films, she made a name for herself by playing motherly roles. She had said in an interview that she would love to play the mother of three actors – Sunil Dutt, Dev Anand and Rajesh Khanna. His famous Hindi films include Sujata (1967), Johny Mera Naam (1969), Kati Patang (1970), Azaad (1978) and many more.

The actress was awarded the Padma Shri in 1999. She was the recipient of the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award at the Filmfare Awards Marathi last year for her outstanding contribution to Marathi cinema. He was also awarded the Maharashtra Bhushan Award by the Government of Maharashtra in 2009.
He is survived by his daughter Kanchan Ghanekar.
