Six Flags Magic Mountain visitors will soon have less a line to wait and more time to ride roller coasters when a new Amazon-powered grab-and-go cashierless shop opens at the Valencia amusement park.
The new Quik 6 micro-market concept debuting this summer at Magic Mountain will be powered by Amazon’s frictionless payments technology offering fast, seamless and contactless transactions.
According to Six Flags Magic Mountain officials, “We are excited to open a new retail location, Kwik 6, with Amazon and Coca-Cola at the park this summer.” “This is a joint venture with Amazon and Coca-Cola that will offer innovative ‘Just Walk Out’ technology, allowing guests to shop and purchase items without waiting in line for a cashier.”
The new Quick 6 Shop at Six Flags Magic Mountain will offer a limited amount of merchandise, snacks and drinks near the main gate plaza and fountain.
According to NJBiz, a 400-square-foot Quick 6 location scheduled before June at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey will sell Coca-Cola beverages along with snacks and park essentials like sunscreen and rain ponchos.
Quick 6 shoppers will select a payment method upon entering the store, select the items they wish to purchase, place them in a virtual cart, and leave the store when the purchase is complete. The selection will be automatically charged using the payment method selected by the buyer.
The skip-the-checkout-line concept was first introduced at Amazon Go convenience stores and later expanded to Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods supermarkets. Amazon’s checkout-free technology has since been adopted by other grocery stores and sports and entertainment venues.
According to NJBiz, Six Flags is billing the Quick 6 stores in New Jersey and California as the world’s first automated checkout-free shops at a theme park.
In March, the e-commerce giant announced plans to close eight Amazon Go stores in Seattle, New York and San Francisco, according to GeekWire, while continuing to operate more than 20 grab-and-go stores across the United States.
