Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a three-nation tour of Japan, Papua New Guinea and Australia, arrived in Port Moresby after attending the G7 summit in Hiroshima. Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Papua New Guinea is the first by an Indian Prime Minister to an Indo-Pacific country. On his arrival in Papua New Guinea, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome in an extraordinary manner. Normally, Papua New Guinea does not extend a formal welcome to any leader who arrives after sunset, but the country made a special exception for PM Modi and gave him a completely ceremonial welcome. Marape greeted PM Modi and sought his blessings in a heart touching manner. As Marape bowed down to seek PM Modi’s blessings, the Prime Minister hugged him, showing the warmth between the two countries. Later, PM Modi met members of the overseas Indian community who had come to receive him at the airport.
