The collections of Adah Sharma-led Kerala Story witnessed a growth of over 50 per cent on its third Saturday. The film added around Rs 9 crore on the 16th day and in all likelihood the film’s numbers will reach double digits on the third Sunday. The film’s 16 day collection is Rs 177 crore and by the end of its weekend it will collect around Rs 188 crore. These are unprecedented for a film of this kind with a budget of around Rs 20 crore. The film opened modestly but since then, it is on the crest of a wave and the 16th and 17th day numbers have also been higher than the 1st day numbers. This is despite a rival like Fast X leading the weekend box office in India.
The Kerala Story is a very profitable film
The Kerala Story was helped by the controversy it found itself in. The controversy was due to the content of the film, which was motivated by hatred for a specific community. Those opposing the community whole heartedly supported the film and the result is in front of the world. This used to be an exception but will become the norm after the stupendous success of The Kashmir Files First and The Kerala Story Now. While there is nationwide unrest and targeted hate in the country, the makers will be laughing their way into the bank with a profit of over Rs 100 crore.
