Rohit Sharma and Co. are set to face Australia in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). The summit clash will take place from June 7 at The Oval, London. Ahead of the big match, Rohit’s teammates have described the captain of the Indian cricket team in one word.
In a video shared by the International Cricket Council (ICC), Team India stars Cheteshwar Pujara, Mohammed Siraj, Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur and Shubman Gill were asked to describe their captain in one word.
We are not surprised, opening batsman Gill and fast bowler Mohammed Shami call him ‘Hitman’. Off-spin legend Ashwin, on the other hand, coined the word ‘class’ to describe Rohit while wicketkeeper-batsman KS Bharat called him a ‘relaxed’ guy.
Pacer Siraj highlighted the star Mumbai batsman’s mastery over the pull shot and termed him as a ‘puller’. Unlike his other teammates, Pujara didn’t describe Rohit in one or a few words. Instead, he spoke a complete sentence. Pujara said, “Most talented player. He has been really good as captain as well. He is very calm under pressure.”
Shardul was the last person to talk about Rohit in the video. Calling him ‘Banta Hai’ in Mumbai parlance, the all-rounder said he has known the 36-year-old since childhood. Shardul further added that Rohit is always a happy and cheerful person.
“In Mumbai parlance, I would call that ‘Banta Hai’.” He’s always down lucky, and you’d expect some kind of joke or he’d just come over and suddenly pat you on the head. He’s a funny guy. I have known him since childhood, he has been like this ever since. Shardul said.
Rohit will be captaining India in the final of an ICC event for the first time. The last time India reached the final of the inaugural edition of the WTC, the captain was Virat Kohli.
Apart from leading the team, Rohit will also have an important role of opening the batting along with youngster Shubman Gill. If pictures of The Oval pitch have gone viral ahead of the final, come what may, Rohit will be aiming to get India off to a good start against a strong Australian bowling unit led by Pat. Cummins.
The WTC Finals 2023 will begin on Wednesday, June 7 at 3 PM IST.
