New Delhi: Punjabi actress Sonam Bajwa is one of the most loved celebrities in the industry today. She often remains in headlines with her social media posts. His latest film raises challenging questions that Indian society may not yet be ready to face or address. The Punjabi film ‘Godde Godde Chha’ highlights the inequality faced by women in their homes.
Sonam talked about the times when women were kept out of baraats (wedding processions) in many parts of North India. The story of the film revolves around a woman’s determination to be a part of the festival, and whether she succeeds or not forms the crux of the story.
In a recent interview, she revealed that she has personally experienced inequality and discrimination. Sonam told The Indian Express, “I think we all have faced this since childhood as sons and daughters are treated differently. Sons can go out, spend the night outside their homes whereas Women are not allowed to do that. I don’t understand where it comes from.” – They are more protective of you than boys. However, I feel this inequality is deeply ingrained in our society. Girls are expected to know how to cook while boys shun. I remember my mother forcing me to stay in the kitchen, even in the summer, while my brother played. I was asked to help but was not taught to do basic kitchen work.”
She further added, “I tell my mother that if you had taught her, it would have been beneficial for her. I used to feel very bad in my childhood when I used to face these things.”
She also talked about Bollywood films like ‘Kahaani’, ‘The Dirty Picture’, ‘Queen’ and ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ which have shown that the audience appreciates the lead role of women in films.
“I think the audience’s taste has evolved and they are looking for something new. Our film Godde Godde Cha is something that will be liked by everyone, irrespective of their age. Indians understand these sentiments and I Am sure they will love watching it, and collectively celebrating with the women in our film,” she concluded.
