Somvati Amavasya: Amavasya or Amavasya day is a very lucky occasion in Hinduism. It is celebrated with utmost devotion every year on the new moon day. Somvati Amavasya is the name of Amavasya Tithi which falls on Monday. This year, on July 17, Shravan will be celebrated as Somvati Amavasya across the country.

Somvati Amavasya: Worship Method

– On the day of Somvati Amavasya, take a bath before sunrise and offer Arghya to the Sun God.

– One should bathe in a holy river on this day, if the water level of the river has increased due to rain, then bathe with this Ganga water at home.

Now go to the temple and offer Ganga water and sesame seeds to Lord Shiva with respect. Offer Belpatra, Dhatura etc. to them. Gift silver, white clothes to the poor.

Plant saplings of Peepal, Tulsi, Banyan, Amla etc. and take a pledge to protect them.

Saptadhyaya donation must be done on Somvati Amavasya, it brings peace to the Navagrahas. This includes rice, wheat, barley, black gram, white sesame, moong dal etc.

– In the afternoon, for the peace of the soul of the ancestors, put black sesame, kush, flowers in the water and offer it. The time of Shradh is considered to be afternoon.

– After meditating on ancestors, donate clothes like dhoti, gamchha, vest etc. It means that your father is pleased and is blessing you.

– Gajendra Moksha and Gita should be recited on this day, it gives freedom to the forefathers who are suffering from the torture of Yamlok.

Somvati Amavasya: Significance

It is mainly a fast that women observe for the health and longevity of their husbands. On the day of Somvati Amavasya, one should donate according to one’s ability. Women who are unable to observe fast on every Amavasya should observe a fast on Somavati Amavasya and circumambulate the Peepal tree 108 times by wrapping it in a thread. It is appropriate to worship the Peepal tree methodically. By observing this fast one gets unbroken good fortune. On Monday the moon is in its day. The Sun and the Moon are still in a straight line today. As a result, the occasion is considered to be of extraordinary importance.
