Hosts Sri Lanka ‘A’ will start their campaign in match no. The first match of the Emerging Asia Cup 2023 against Bangladesh ‘A’ team at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) ground in Colombo on Thursday. Sri Lanka have picked a 16-man squad that includes a few international players, and Bangladesh’s board has announced a 19-man squad with a mix of quality domestic and international players.
The Sri Lanka ‘A’ team will be led by opener Avishka Fernando and will feature young fast bowlers like Dilshan Madhushanka and Mathisha Pathirana. The latter made his ODI debut in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe. Pathirana was also a part of MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team that won the IPL 2023 title earlier this year.
Madhushanka was impressive in the CWC 2023 qualifiers as well as last year’s Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE, where she made the Indian batting a memorable one. Bangladesh ‘A’, on the other hand, will be led by Mahmudul Hasan Joy and have experienced all-rounder Soumya Sarkar, who is trying to make a comeback in international cricket.
