In a surprising twist to the ICC World Test Championship 2023 final between India and Australia, former Australian player Justin Langer expressed his admiration for Virat Kohli’s captaincy skills. Langer, who had previously coached the Australian team during their series defeat against India under Kohli, praised Kohli’s aggression, passion and batting skills, calling him an “amazing captain”.
Langer’s comments on Kohli’s captaincy triggered a wave of mixed reactions among fans on Twitter. However, it is difficult to deny Kohli’s success as a Test captain. With 40 wins in 68 Tests, Kohli holds the record for most Test wins as captain for India, with a win percentage of 58.82. Their overseas record is also impressive with 16 wins in 36 Tests, including a historic series win against Australia in 2018-19.
As a captain, Kohli has been a prolific run-scorer, scoring 5864 runs in 113 Tests at an average of 54.80, including 20 hundreds. Under his leadership, the Indian bowling unit flourished, taking 20 consecutive wickets on 22 out of 35 occasions in overseas Tests.

In limited overs cricket, Kohli’s leadership has been equally commendable. With a win percentage of 70.43 in ODIs and 60% in T20Is, he has guided India to several victories and remarkable tournament performances. Under his captaincy, India reached the semi-finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Langer’s praise for Kohli’s captaincy during the WTC 2023 final may have sparked debate among cricket enthusiasts, but it is a testament to Kohli’s influence as a leader and his significant contribution to Indian cricket across formats .

Absolutely! The same team always faced opposition even after a long partnership. You can’t win Test matches by waiting for something to happen. This team needs Kohli’s aggression in Test matches. Rohit has not been able to impress in Tests so far as captain.
