Former India captain Virat Kohli is unbeaten on 36 at the end of the second day’s play of the first Test against West Indies at Roseau in Dominica on Thursday. After scoring 25 runs on the second day, Kohli became the fifth-highest run-scorer for India in Test cricket during his innings, surpassing former India opener Virender Sehwag.
However, in most of his innings, Kohli did not look as confident as usual. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batsman took 81 balls to hit his first boundary of the innings at the end of the second day. Kohli celebrated the boundary with great enthusiasm, as if he had scored a century or achieved some great achievement.

Kohli, who is the only batsman to score more than 4,000 runs in T20Is, has 8,515 runs in Tests and 12,898 runs in ODIs. The Indian batsman also created history with his short cameo against the West Indies on the second day in Dominica. Kohli has become the fifth highest run-scorer for India in the history of Test cricket.
The former India skipper has surpassed legendary Indian opener Virender Sehwag (8,503) in the elite list. In the elite list, Kohli is behind only Sachin Tendulkar (15,921), Rahul Dravid (13,265), Sunil Gavaskar (10,122) and VVS Laxman (8,781). Kohli remained unbeaten on 36 off 96 balls on the second day of the Dominica Test.
Meanwhile, skipper Rohit Sharma also emulated Kohli’s feat by becoming the second batsman to score more than 3,500 runs in all three formats of the game. Rohit achieved the feat when he was on 63 during his 103-run knock in the first innings of the first Test.
India added 99 runs in the middle session but only 67 runs were scored in 32 overs after tea. West Indies used their third and final review to get Kohli out for 9 but he could not touch the ball.
Without a review, the West Indies bemoaned what might have happened when fast bowler Kemar Roach hit Jaiswal on his back pad on 133. West Indies appealed for lbw without success. Ball tracking revealed that it hit the leg stump.
Kohli, satisfied with helping Jaiswal, took 81 balls to get his first boundary and punch it in the air. He used 96 balls to score 36 runs without any trouble till stumps. But Kohli, playing second only to Jaiswal, had the highest score by an Indian on debut outside Asia, and the tally was rising.
