Sawan First Monday 2023: In Vedic astrology, it is said that when the Sun enters Leo, then Sawan is considered to be the beginning. According to the lunar calendar, the holy month begins on the new moon day.

It is said that during this holy month the universe is filled with the elements of Shiva, and these elements help in the purification of mind, body and soul.

In the Hindu calendar, Sawan, often also referred to as Shravan, is a major month. It usually falls between July and August on the Gregorian calendar and is the fifth month of the Hindu lunisolar calendar. Hindus, especially followers of Lord Shiva, attach great religious and cultural importance to the month of Sawan.

Sawan 2023: Important Dates

This year the month of Sawan will start on 4th July and end on 31st August. During this, special prayers will be offered to Lord Shiva and his family in temples across the country. Sawan is considered a holy month in which Lord Shiva is worshiped in the hope of prosperity, marriage and wealth.

On July 10, the first Monday fast of Sawan is starting. This year is particularly lucky, as due to the longer Shravan month, Shravan will last for two months after a long gap of 19 years.

First Monday of Sawan 2023: Puja Muhurat

On the first Monday of Sawan, you can start the day by worshiping Lord Shiva (Mahadev) early in the morning. The auspicious time of the first Monday of Sawan starts from 05:30 to 07:14. Apart from this, the time from 8:58 to 10:42 is auspicious.

First Sawan Monday: Fast worship method

Devotees perform Jalabhishek on the Shiva Linga during their visit to the Lord Shiva temple.

Take bath early in the morning, worship the idol of Lord Shiva and keep chanting the mantra ‘Om Namah Shivay’.

– Offer belpatra, doob, kusha, lotus, neelkamal, jawfool kaner and mustard flowers to God.

– Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is chanted 108 times in the name of Lord Shiva.

– Rudrabhishek is done by offering milk, curd, ghee, honey and Gangajal.

Consumption of alcohol is strictly prohibited.

– Shiva Chalisa and Shiva Aarti are recited to please Lord Shiva.

Sawan Monday 2023: Fast story

According to the Skanda Purana, Narada Muni questioned Lord Shiva about his intense interest in the month of Sawan. Lord Shiva claims that Goddess Sati faced her father’s disapproval because she vowed to have him as her life partner in each incarnation.

Goddess Sati left her body after her father insulted Shiva. Thereafter, the daughter of Himalaya and Naina gave birth to Goddess Parvati. Even in this birth, the Goddess observed an intense fast in the month of Sawan to get Lord Shiva’s approval and marry him.

Sixteen Monday fasts are observed in the month of Sawan for the blessings of Lord Shiva.
