New Delhi: The Rashtriya Janata Dal on Sunday reportedly compared the new Parliament building to a coffin. Earlier today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the new Parliament House to the nation by unveiling a plaque and installing ‘Sengol’ in the Lok Sabha Chamber. The RJD shared a picture of a coffin on Twitter and asked ‘Yeh kya hai (What is this?)’ in Hindi. There has been a sharp reaction from the BJP on this. BJP leader Sushil Modi said, “Sedition cases should be filed against such people who have compared the new Parliament building to a coffin.”
Speaking to ANI, RJD leader Shakti Yadav said, “PM Modi has buried democracy. The coffin has been posted because Modi has ensured the death of democracy.” The party had earlier announced that it would boycott the inauguration ceremony.
“It’s very unfortunate. Today they are comparing it to a coffin, were they comparing the old Parliament to a ‘void’? We used to sit in a void?” BJP leader Dushyant Gautam asked. RJD’s Rajya Sabha MP Manoj Jha said that along with the inauguration of the entire Parliament House, there is a need for curriculum reform.

Earlier today, PM Modi honored some of the workers involved in the construction of the new building. He handed over mementos to them. Prime Minister Modi installed the sacred ‘Sengol’ right next to the speaker’s chair in the new Lok Sabha chamber after offering prayers. During the ceremony, PM Modi also bowed in front of ‘Sengol’ as a mark of respect.
