Ravindra Jadeja was not sure that he is going to be a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad in the IPL 2023 season. But on Monday night, Jadeja scored the winning runs as CSK cruised to their fifth IPL title with a five-wicket win over defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The CSK all-rounder ended the IPL 2023 campaign with 190 runs in 16 matches and 20 wickets at an average of 21. Midway through the IPL 2022 season, Jadeja was once again replaced by Dhoni as the CSK skipper after the all-rounder was ruled out of the rest of the matches due to injury.
Jadeja unfollowed CSK on his social media platforms, leading to speculations that the all-rounder might not be retained by Dhoni and the team for the IPL 2023 season. However, Dhoni put his foot down to retain Jadeja ahead of the IPL 2023 auction and kept his faith in the all-rounder as well.
A day after becoming the IPL 2023 champion, Jadeja dedicated the title to Dhoni and posted pictures of himself and his wife Rivaba with MS Dhoni in the CSK dressing room. “We did it for only one” MS Dhoni. Anything for you Mahi bhai…” Jadeja tweeted.

Jadeja smashed a 6-ball 15, including 10 runs in the last two balls to guide CSK to their fifth IPL title in 14 seasons. He dedicated the win to a ‘special member of the CSK side’ – MS Dhoni. “I’m from Gujarat, and it’s a special feeling. This crowd has been amazing. They waited till late night for the rain to stop, I want to say a big congratulations to the CSK fans who came out to support us.
Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan lauded the Saurashtra all-rounder for delivering in style. Irfan Pathan said on Star Sports’ Cricket Live, ‘Salute to Sir Jadeja. He worked for CSK in crisis situations and led his team to a record-equalling fifth IPL title. He held his nerves even as the game slipped out of CSK’s grip. Personally, he suffered a lot last season but India’s star all-rounder has put all the disappointment behind him. Son of Gujarat wins for a team from Chennai in front of a capacity ground in Ahmedabad. It could not be better.
