‘Panch Kriti – Five Elements’, a film that shows rural India in its true form

New Delhi: Indian films have often been criticized for not portraying rural India in an authentic manner. Most of the time, films that are set in villages or small towns are shot on artificially created sets.

The makers of ‘Panch Kriti’ – Five Elements were clear that they did not want to go down this path. The film, which has five stories and is set in Chanderi, Bundelkhand, has been extensively shot at real locations.

Talking about the importance of shooting at real locations, director Sanjoy Bhargava says, “A set can never provide a sense of realism. That’s why I always prefer to shoot at real locations. When the audience sees a particular location in a film, they should also be able to feel and smell it. I firmly believe that rural India is far more beautiful and spectacular than urban India. Unlike cities, villages and towns are more clean and do not suffer from pollution. Aesthetically also, they are much more pleasant.”

Chanderi has always been known as a town of historical importance. Apart from its beautiful Jain temples, this unique city of Madhya Pradesh is known for its natural beauty. The city is surrounded by picturesque hills on all sides and this adds to its visual appeal. All the five stories of ‘Panch Kriti’ – Five Elements have been shot in and around Chanderi and depict different aspects of the city.

“Since the film has five stories, the audience will get to see Chanderi in a new light with each film. Even though it is a small town, it has many interesting aspects. We have tried to explore them through this film. There is a special reason why we decided to shoot the film in Chanderi. Chanderi in a way represents rural India in more ways than one. The local administration was very cooperative throughout the shoot and made sure everything went smoothly”, says Sannjoy.

‘Panch Kriti’ – Five Elements is a women-centric film that touches upon several important topics and subjects related to women. It also highlights the importance of social movements in India like ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan’.
