Kashmir: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday said that it is cracking down on terrorist organizations and their offshoots/associates operating in the Kashmir Valley. In a handout, the NIA said that its agency conducted several raids in Kashmir’s Anantnag, Srinagar, Pulwama, Shopian and Budgam districts and seized incriminating material/documents.
According to its spokesperson, the NIA launched extensive searches at 13 locations of newly formed offshoots and associates of several proscribed Pak-backed terrorist organizations including Lashkar-e-Taiba, sympathizers/cadres, hybrid terrorists and overground workers (OGWs). LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM), Al-Badr, Al-Qaeda, etc.
The raids were part of the NIA’s ongoing probe into the terror conspiracy case involving activities of OGWs and cadres in support of various newly launched organizations such as The Resistance Front (TRF), United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir (ULFJ&K) . , Mujahideen Ghazwat-ul-Hind (MGH), Jammu and Kashmir Freedom Fighters (JKFF), Kashmir Tigers, PAAF, among others, he said.
He said that apart from militancy and violent activities, these cadres and activists have been found involved in the collection and distribution of sticky bombs/magnetic bombs, IEDs, money, narcotics and arms/ammunition.
The NIA investigation further revealed the involvement of Pak based operatives in delivering arms/ ammunition, explosives, narcotics etc. to these cadres and workers through drones in the Kashmir Valley. He said that social media platforms are being widely used by operatives from across the border to connect with OGWs and cadres in Kashmir.
The NIA had registered a suo moto case (RC-05/2022/NIA/JMU) on June 21, 2022. The case related to the conspiracy and plans, hatched by these accused terrorist organizations physically as well as in cyber space.
The conspirators intended to carry out violent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir with sticky bombs, IEDs and small arms etc. as part of a larger conspiracy to carry out acts of terror and violence by radicalizing local youth and mobilizing and deploying underground activists . In connection with the investigation of this case, since the beginning of this month, the NIA has conducted more than 70 searches in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the statement reads.
