Nearly 38,000 people affected in 13 districts by Assam floods

Guwahati: The Assam Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Saturday said that around 38,000 people in 13 districts of the state have been affected by the current floods. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), 25,275 people have been affected in Lakhimpur district alone, while 3857 people have been affected in Dibrugarh, 3631 in Biswanath district. The ASDMA said several rivers were flowing above the danger mark in various districts of the state.

“After incessant rains, the water level of several rivers in the region is rising and the Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger mark at Nematighat in Jorhat district, Kopili at Kampur in Nagaon district, NH road crossing in Kamrup district.” said in an official statement. “146 villages under 23 revenue circles in Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalguri, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Hojai, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Udalguri districts have been affected by the deluge, while Cachar, Kamrup (Metro) and Nalbari have experienced urban flooding. Information has been received from the districts,” it added.

According to ASDMA in the last 24 hours the flood water has breached 5 embankments and damaged 8 other embankments, 8 roads, 1 bridge, some schools, Anganwadi centers in different districts of the state. In the flood affected districts, 1409.65 hectares of crop land has been submerged in flood water. In view of the situation, the district administration has set up 17 relief distribution centers and two relief camps.

On the other hand, a person named Mukhtar Ali (35 years) died in a landslide in Dhirenpara area of ​​Guwahati on Saturday.
