Team India on Sunday lost yet another ICC Trophy final, losing to Australia by 209 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC) final at The Oval in London. India have now failed to win an ICC trophy since Mahendra Singh Dhoni stepped down as India’s captaincy – their last win coming in the 2013 Champions Trophy.
With India licking the wounds of yet another final defeat after losing the inaugural WTC final to New Zealand last year, a fan praised former skipper Dhoni, who led India to T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup as well as the Champions Trophy. Awarded the title

Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was part of the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup winning squads, was not happy that only ‘one person’ was getting all the credit for winning the ICC trophy title.
Tweeting the post, Harbhajan said, “Yes when these matches were played this young boy was playing alone from India..not the other 10..that’s why he alone won the world cup trophies..the irony when Australia or any other country wins. World cup headlines say Australia or other country wins. But when Indian wins it is said captain wins. It’s a team game. Win together lose together.

Harbhajan’s former teammate Gautam Gambhir also agreed and joined the ‘team vs individual’ debate. “Our country is not a team-obsessed but an individual-obsessed. We consider some individuals bigger than the team. In other countries like England, New Zealand and Australia the team is bigger than any individual. And the stakeholders of Indian cricket, From broadcasters to media, unfortunately down to PR agencies. They will only show 3 people the whole day. If you have made 50 and I have also made 50, if you keep showing one person then everyone will understand that he is the same person. There is only one star. The other person will be termed as underrated,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by News18 website.
Meanwhile, Dhoni last month at the age of 41 led Chennai Super Kings to a record-equalling 5th Indian Premier League title by defeating defending champions Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023 final.
