Halle Bailey recently lauded her The Little Mermaid co-star Melissa McCarthy for teaching her how to look and say what suits her on set. However, McCarthy was not always so outspoken. Yes, you read that right. McCarthy said in a recent interview that she once got sick from working on a set that was so toxic that many of the cast and crew were left “crying”. McCarthy learned from experience that she could not remain silent in the face of inappropriate work conditions.
“I once worked for someone who was running such a volatile, hostile set up that it made me physically ill,” the 52-year-old said. McCarthy continued, “My eyes were puffy, I was absorbing all this nuttiness.”
She continued, “People were crying, looking very upset by this one person.” The actress further said, ‘And I think that’s why the rigging worked, because to get me, this person used to set fire to the people I loved, who used to silence me. It was very effective. Then one day, I was like, ‘It’s closed today!’ I just kept telling him, it stops, it stops. And I know now I will never be silent again.
McCarthy as Ursula in ‘The Little Mermaid’
In the live-action Disney version of The Little Mermaid, McCarthy plays the villainous ‘Ursula’, the sea witch. The film will mark the Hollywood musical debut of the Oscar-nominated actor. She will next be seen in a comedy role in a peacock film with a holiday theme.
McCarthy said, “I was very scared, and there were moments when I thought, I had no business trying to meet Rob Marshall, but if I didn’t, I would regret it for the rest of my life. ” He continued, “It went well. We kind of hit it off. He is such a remarkable and lovely human being.
