Dr. Sudhir Kumar, Neurologist, Apollo Hospital, Hyderabad took to Twitter to address the emotional turmoil of students during CBSE exam results. Here’s what his Twitter thread had to say.
The CBSE Class 10 and 12 board results for 2023 were declared earlier today. This year, the overall pass percentage stood at 87.33%, showing a decrease of 5.38% compared to last year.
Students across the country go through a roller coaster of emotions once the results are declared – from joy and relief for those who get their desired results, to disappointment, sadness, or despair for those who fail to live up to their expectations. They don’t come down. Each student’s response varies depending on their personal goals, aspirations, and the importance attached to academic achievement.
Keeping this in mind, Dr Sudhir Kumar, a neurologist working at Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad, shared his CBSE Class 12 marksheet from the year 1989 on Twitter in March 2023.
In the thread, he said that around 17 lakh students appeared in the CBSE Class 12 board exams this year.

He wrote, “You must be eagerly waiting for the results. Here I am sharing my 34 years old mark sheet. Focus on Physics Theory Marks: 23/70.” He then went on to explain how he had predicted a score of 67–68 out of 70 in Physics, but got only passing marks due to an unexplained error.
But he adds that “despite the disappointment, it ultimately had no significant effect.”
Dr. Sudhir explained that he was able to apply for various medical college entrance exams. He enrolled at CMC Vellore where he successfully completed the eligibility requirements – scoring 50% or above in each subject in class 12th – thanks to his practical scores.
Finally, in a reassuring tweet, he wrote, “Numbers matter but only up to a certain limit. So, my sincere advice to the students is to study well and do well in the entrance exam (NEET/JEE) or any other higher studies. Future does not depend on class 12 marks (alone).
