Indian shuttler HS Prannoy on Wednesday reached the pre-quarterfinals at the Malaysia Masters 2023, while Malvika Bansod failed to win her game.
Prannoy defeated Taiwanese shuttler Chou Tien Chen 16-21, 21-14, 21-13 in men’s singles. He lost his first set but made an impressive comeback and won in two straight sets. In the women’s singles, Malavika lost 11-21, 13-21 to Wang Zhi Yi of China. Malvika Bansod defeated Chinese Taipei player Siang Ti Lin 21-12, 21-19 in 43 minutes to make it to the main draw.
Indian shuttlers Akashi Kashyap and Ashmita Chaliha’s journey at the Malaysia Masters 2023 came to an end as they suffered straight sets defeats in their women’s singles events.
Akarshi, ranked 39th, lost to world number one Akane Yamaguchi of Japan. She lost in straight sets 17-21, 12-21. World No. 50 Ashmita’s tournament ended after going down 17-21, 7-21 to No. 9 Han Yu of China.
India’s star shuttlers PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth began their campaign with victories in the ongoing Malaysia Masters 2023. In her women’s singles first round match, Olympic gold medalist PV Sindhu won against Denmark’s Line Kristoffersen.
Sindhu won 21-13, 17-21, 21-18. Sindhu got off to a flying start by winning the first game comprehensively. In the second game, the Danish came back and won a closely fought match. Sindhu managed to hold her nerves and despite the competitiveness of the line, she won the final game 21-18 to advance to the next round.
In his first round men’s singles match, Kidambi defeated Toma Junior Popov of France. The Indian beat Popov in two straight games 21-12, 21-16.
