Italy has announced a €2.2 billion relief package for people affected by floods in its Emilia-Romagna region, where an estimated 23,000 people have lost their homes and thousands of hectares of fertile farmland have been damaged, as the region’s annual More than half of the average rainfall has been received. In a span of only 36 hours.
At least 15 people were reported killed in the floods, which forced thousands of people from their homes in one of the country’s most fertile and productive agricultural regions, and damaged thousands of fruit-bearing trees.
The relief package includes direct support for affected businesses and a moratorium on tax collection and social contributions for flood-affected companies.
