In the wake of the devastating train accident in Odisha’s Balasore that claimed over 250 lives and injured over 1,000, condolences and support poured in from around the world. Among those who have shown their sympathy and support is the famous K-pop group BlackSwan, which includes Shriya Lenka, the first Indian K-pop star to come from Odisha. The group has committed to provide financial assistance to the victims affected by the tragic incident.
Dr Music Entertainment, the agency representing the group, issued an official statement on Sunday expressing its deepest condolences to all those affected by the accident.
“A devastating train accident occurred in Balasore, Odisha, India. Everyone concerned with Dr Music Entertainment, including the members of BlackSwan, would like to express their deepest condolences to those affected by the accident and the people of India,” the statement read, adding that the accident’s original home state is the band member Shriya Lenka’s latest album. Also the location of Blackswan’s music video for “That Karma”.
The statement acknowledged the overwhelming love and support it received from Odisha while filming the music video, which coincided with the 2023 Odisha Hockey World Cup opening ceremony held in the state.

The K-pop band announced that they would find ways to contribute to the people and families affected through the proceeds from the sale of their “Karma” album.

Apart from the statement, the post also showed nostalgic pictures from the filming of the music video in Odisha. Earlier this year, the entire team traveled to Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, to shoot the music video of the album “That Karma”. During their visit, the members of the group also had the honor of performing at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Odisha Hockey World Cup.

On the evening of June 2, 2023, a devastating accident occurred in Balasore district of the state when three trains collided. The incident stands as one of the worst train accidents in India. The Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Shalimar-Chennai Central Coromandel Express and a goods train were involved in the accident which took place at around 6.30 pm.
As per reports, around 275 people lost their lives in this tragic incident while more than 1,000 people were injured. Rescue operations immediately began at the site, with affected people being taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
