Intel announced a new look and overall product strategy, choosing to modernize over the path of simplicity. The change comes amid growing expectations for the launch of Intel Core Ultra processors, known as Meteor Lake, since its description in 2021.
In what the company is describing as the most significant brand update in 15 years, Intel will no longer place generational messaging in front of its processor names. It would also drop the ‘i’ in front of processor tiering and marketing, starting with the Meteor Lake generation, or any subsequent new products in silicon.

This change means that the next Core processors will be referred to as “Intel Core 3 processors” and subsequent numbers instead of “14th generation Intel Core i3 processors”.
Intel explained that the changes would begin in the second half of 2023, as well as adding that they would apply to all products “going forward, starting with Meteor Lake”. As the pressure mounts to release a new ‘Ultra’ processor, one can only wonder if the launch is too soon.
