Hema Malini reacts on living in separate houses and opens up about unconventional married life with Dharmendra

Hema Malini and Dharmendra have been one of the most enduring couples of Bollywood. But since their marriage in 1980, they have led an unconventional life. At that time, Dharmendra was already married and had four children, making their relationship controversial and much criticized in the society. However, Hema has maintained a steady and positive outlook throughout, saying that she believes in taking life as it comes and not letting it bother her in any way.

In an interview with Lehren Retro, Hema was hailed as a feminist icon for her decision to live in a separate household from Dharmendra and raise her two daughters. He accepted that although it was not a desired situation, life sometimes takes unexpected turns, and one must accept and adjust to them. Hema emphasized that despite their unorthodox living arrangements, Dharmendra has always been there for their family.

He said that though every woman aspires to have a normal family with husband and children, sometimes circumstances lead to alternative paths. Hema clarified that she does not feel bad or resentful about the situation and is satisfied with herself. He proudly states that he raised both his children well and is grateful for their presence in his life. She acknowledged the unconventional nature of her married life with Dharmendra and insisted that she cannot be upset about it.

Hema Malini credits her ability to handle such unconventional situations to the guidance of her spiritual mentor, ‘Guru Maa’, who supported her throughout her career and personal life. She admitted that Dharmendra was always there for her children even though she was worried and believed that they should get married soon. (‘Marriage should be early for children’)

The couple married in 1980, Dharmendra was already married to Prakash Kaur and had four children. Hema and Dharmendra have two daughters, Isha and Ahana. His family dynamics have been a topic of interest and discussion over the years.

It is worth noting that Hema, Esha and Ahana recently skipped Dharmendra’s grandson Karan Deol’s wedding ceremony, due to which Dharmendra expressed his feelings through a heartfelt social media post dedicated to her.
