Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma had yet another poor show in the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL 2023) as he managed just 8 runs in 7 balls in Qualifier 2 of the T20 Championship on Friday. Chasing 234, MI pinned hopes of a brilliant start with the bat from him, but it did not materialize as Rohit was dismissed by Mohammed Shami early in the chase. The 35-year-old has a poor record in the IPL playoffs, scoring no more than 26 runs in this phase of the T20 league.

One statistic reveals Rohit’s dismal performance in the playoffs. In 15 innings, Rohit has scored just 133 runs at an average of 9.50 with a strike rate of 89.26, his highest score being 26. It is a troubling record for Mumbai Indians and its captain.
Rohit on the reasons why MI lost to GT
Rohit was highly critical of himself and the other batsmen for not putting up a good fight even in chasing down a tough target and was dismissed for just 171 runs in 18.2 overs. He said that Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav performed brilliantly before the team chased down the target. “It was a great total, Shubman batted really well. The wicket was really good. He got 25 extras, we were very positive when we were batting. Couldn’t get enough of the partnership. Green and Surya batted well But we lost our way. We talked about giving it a good crack, we lost a couple of wickets in the powerplay and chasing a target like this didn’t get the momentum,” Rohit Sharma said after the match.
The MI skipper, however, said that he is happy to see youngsters step up throughout the tournament. “Playing this game and qualifying as third gives us a lot of confidence, our batting has been the biggest positive, some of the young players especially and take it into next season and see what you can do,” Rohit concludes.
