Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who has been absent from the cricket field since the T20I against Australia last September, is expected to make a comeback during the three T20 Internationals against Ireland in August. Reliable sources have revealed that Bumrah’s recovery is going well, and he could be in peak physical condition when he returns to the team. After undergoing back surgery in March, Bumrah began a long rehabilitation process at the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

The series against Ireland will provide valuable playing time to Bumrah ahead of two important white-ball tournaments. After three T20 matches, India will take part in the Asia Cup in September and then focus on the 50-over World Cup at home in October and November. A senior board official involved in monitoring Bumrah’s rehabilitation is optimistic about his return for the Ireland series.
“Jasprit Bumrah is looking very promising for the Ireland series to be held in August this year. This will be a big boost for the Indian cricket team and will give Bumrah a chance to regain his form after a long injury layoff If everything goes as planned, we can expect a fully fit Bumrah on the field,” officials told News18.
During his rehabilitation at NCA, Bumrah was closely monitored by NCA chief VVS Laxman and head of sports science and medicine Nitin Patel. Patel, who previously served as the chief physio for the Indian cricket team and Mumbai Indians, has worked closely with Seamer at the NCA.
Apart from Laxman and Patel, NCA physio S Rajinikanth, who was earlier part of Delhi Capitals’ support staff, is working closely with Bumrah to ensure that his rehabilitation stays on track. Rajinikanth has successfully helped players like Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya recover from serious injuries in the past.
“Nitin Patel and Rajnikanth are closely monitoring Bumrah’s progress and ensuring that his rehabilitation remains on track at the NCA. They are both highly experienced and are not taking any chances with Bumrah, considering that It is an important white-ball year and the start of a new World Test Championship cycle,” the official said.
All stakeholders including BCCI, Indian team management and Mumbai Indians are committed to ensure longevity of Bumrah’s career. Mumbai Indians strongly believe that maintaining Bumrah’s longevity as an Indian bowler is of utmost importance and have never put pressure on him to rush into playing for the team. Bumrah attempted a comeback during the January home series against Sri Lanka, but was hampered by persistent back pain, eventually requiring surgery a few months later. Since the surgery and the start of his rehabilitation, all sides have taken a patient approach with the talented fast bowler.
“Everyone understands the importance of Bumrah in any team, be it the Indian team or the Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Looking at the failed attempts to bring him back earlier, everyone was willing to wait and watch him represent India again.” before allowing him to make a full recovery,” said. A source close to the developments.
This year has been crucial for the Indian cricket team in limited-overs cricket, and a fit-again Bumrah will undoubtedly provide a significant boost to the seam-bowling attack, which currently relies heavily on Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj.
