The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is the official host of the Asia Cup 2023 later this year, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) refusal to travel to Pakistan has complicated matters for the Asian Cricket Council. acc). On Monday, the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board offered to host the Asia Cup if the ACC deemed it fit.
The hosts of Asia Cup 2022 could not organize the tournament in their country due to political and economic turmoil and the event was shifted to Dubai last year. But with the BCCI rejecting Pakistan’s ‘hybrid’ model proposal to host the Asia Cup, SLC has offered to host as the ACC prepares to take a call on the six-nation event.
“SLC is ready to host the Asia Cup in no time. The decision now rests with the ACC.

A meeting was held on the sidelines of the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad and there was a consensus among the BCCI, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan Cricket Boards that the tournament should be held at one venue. The BCCI continues to oppose the hybrid model proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in which matches are hosted in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
“Colombo or nothing,” is how a BCCI source reacted to the talks and cited logistical inconvenience as the reason for opposing the Cricbuzz website. “We will go with the BCCI,” said the SLC official. A formal meeting of the ACC is expected in the next few days.
It is now clear that the PCB, despite being the designated host, is finding no takers for its offer and is increasingly drifting apart in the ACC. Non-Test members such as the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) and the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) also have a presence in Ahmedabad where informal discussions have taken place over the past few days.
It is not clear what the PCB’s position will be but its chief Najam Sethi has earlier said that Pakistan will not participate if it is not allowed to host some games in their country. The impasse continues but it is clear that the PCB’s position has weakened considerably.
