According to a report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple Actively working on developing our own chatbot named “applegpt, The Cupertino-based tech giant has apparently created a framework called “Ajax” specifically designed for large language models such as Microsoft’s Bing, Google’s Bard and the famous ChatGPT. Using this framework, Apple has created its own internal chatbot. However, it seems that Apple lacks a clear strategy regarding building a consumer-oriented product using this technology, as Gurman suggests.
Developing Ajax Framework for AppleGPT
Apple relied on Google’s Jax machine learning framework, which operates on the Google Cloud Platform. Additionally, Apple reportedly explored the possibility of partnering with OpenAI and even tested OpenAI’s technology for its internal business teams. However, in the end, Apple decided not to move in this particular direction.
Apple is investing heavily in the area of artificial intelligence, with several teams dedicated to addressing challenges related to privacy and AI. While Apple has its own Siri personal assistant, the company has always taken a more cautious approach than its competitors, placing more emphasis on protecting user privacy rather than focusing only on advanced features. Nevertheless, Apple has faced criticism for Siri’s limitations compared to rival products from Google, Microsoft, Samsung, Amazon and others.
During an earnings call in May, Apple CEO Tim Cook highlighted that there are still “some problems to be solved” with AI and stressed the importance of being “deliberate and thoughtful” in its development. Cook further added that Apple views AI as a “huge” field and intends to incorporate it into its products very carefully.
At the moment, there is no news of Apple launching a chatbot like “applegptfor consumers, but the company continues to enhance its machine learning-based features with each new software release.
For example, the iOS 17 update introduced improvements to predictive text functionality and introduced new features related to visual search and photo recognition.
