New Delhi: Schools under the Education Department (Schools), Government of Manipur, reopened on Wednesday and resumed their normal classes for classes 1-8 after being closed for over two months due to caste violence that broke out in the hill state on May 3. Started it.

Sources said that despite the resumption of normal classes for Standard 1-8, 96 out of 4,617 schools could not be opened as the premises are being used for relief operations.
The source further added, “Students displaced by the recent violence in the state are allowed free admission in nearby schools.”
“Further, the requirement of prior permission of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur/Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (BoSEM/CoHSEM) for classes 9 to class 12 for violence-affected students opting to change school has been waived off and no fee No fee will be charged for updation of registration with BoSEM/CoHSEM in such cases,” said the source.
The Department(s) of Education(s) and Holistic Education, Manipur has distributed textbooks, exercise books, pens, pencils, sports material and school uniforms to the displaced children living in relief camps in both hill and valley districts.
“So far 27,629 textbooks; 20,375 notebooks; 4,955 pencils; 3,483 sharpeners and erasers and 5,171 pens have been distributed to the relief camps through the respective ZEOs. The source further informed that during an inspection on Wednesday it was observed that maximum attendance in the schools on Wednesday was recorded by the students who were displaced in the wake of the violence and shifted to relief camps.
The clashes in Manipur led to many people being shifted to relief camps, while over 130 people died. Several houses, shops, business establishments and vehicles were also destroyed in the ethnic violence and clashes.
