There was a time in Bollywood when audiences used to mark their calendars for the biggest night of Bollywood, the Filmfare Awards ceremony. Filled with energetic performances from the actors and hilarious hosts, the event was a big deal. Now, it’s been reduced to a snooze-fest with disappointing acts on stage.
Over the years, several actors have spoken out about the nature of such awards and claimed that the winners are the result of lobbying and are not authentic. After Salman Khan, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah took a dig at the Filmfare Awards on how he doesn’t attend the events anymore.
In an interview with Lallantop as quoted by india today, the veteran actor questioned the fairness of the awards and how it undermines the hard work of many actors in choosing the best performance of the year. He admitted to missing the last two award ceremonies because he was ‘not proud of them’.
“When I built a farmhouse, I decided to keep these awards there. Whoever goes to the washroom will get two awards each because the handles are made of Filmfare Awards,” reveals Naseeruddin Shah. The actor also admitted that though he was initially happy to have them, he no longer finds any value in them.
He also said that when the awards started ‘heaping’ around him, he understood that it was the result of ‘lobbying’. “It is not necessary that these awards are being given because of their merit. So I started trailing them,” he said.

According to a report in Indian Express, Salman Khan revealed that he was once called to an award function and was promised an award. He also had to perform that night. However, the award was then given to Jackie Shroff after which he felt ‘betrayed’ and canceled his performance.
