South African cricket legend and former Royal Challengers Bangalore legend AB de Villiers has picked 21-year-old Rajasthan Royals batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal as his favorite player from the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. Picking the uncapped player over fans’ favorite players like Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill, de Villiers said that Jaiswal has all the necessary ingredients to become a great player.
“Yashasvi Jaiswal for me and definitely by a long margin. He is a young player and has all the shots in the book. He has a calm and composed demeanor on the wicket and I like what he does, on the bowlers Dominates and always looks like he’s in control,” de Villiers said while speaking on JioCinema.
“Shubman is a bit older, I think Jaiswal has a long way to go and he has all the makings to be great,” said the South African.
Yashasvi Jaiswal joined the Rajasthan team in 2020 after stellar performances in the Under-19 World Cup and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Jaiswal was bought by RR in 2020 for Rs 2.4 crore, becoming the youngest Indian to score a double century in List A cricket at the age of just 17.
While his transition to IPL was not smooth, he was still retained by RR. He repaid that faith with his fiery performances in IPL 2023. Jaiswal became the highest run-scorer for his team by scoring 625 runs in 14 matches. With a strike rate of 163.61 and an average of 48.08, the 21-year-old star batsman also broke the record for the fastest fifty in IPL, scoring 50 runs in just 13 balls.
While Rajasthan Royals finished fifth in the league table and missed the playoffs, Jaiswal’s performance did not go unnoticed. The young opener was recently called up as a replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad for the upcoming World Test Championship.
