All out efforts were initiated for rescue, recovery, aid and assistance. We are sending a 5- to 6-member team to the spot to cooperate with Odisha government and railway officials and assist in rescue operations. I am personally monitoring the situation along with the Chief Secretary and other senior officers.”

Today a major accident took place in Odisha between three trains – two passenger and one goods train. According to reports, the two derailed trains collided with each other, causing several coaches to collide with each other. So far 400 people were injured and 50 people died in this tragedy. - The accident took place near Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district at around 7.20 pm.
- According to Amitabh Sharma, a Railway Ministry spokesperson, the Yesvantpur-Howrah Superfast hit the derailed bogies of some coaches of the Coromandel Express, which had collided and fallen on the opposite track.
- According to multiple reports, several people were trapped under the derailed trains, and the community was helping rescuers.
- According to officials, the injured are being rescued by 60 ambulances and four units of the ODRAF (Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force).
- According to a railway official, a 32-member NDRF team started its journey from Cuttack, while a 22-member team reached the accident site from Balasore.
- Following the accident, at least 13 trains were diverted, canceled or terminated.
- The disaster irked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who claimed he called Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav to assess the situation.
- According to sources, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered Revenue Minister Pramila Malik and Special Relief Secretary Satyabrata Sahu to reach the accident site soon.
