The French Open 2023 will begin on May 28 at Roland Garros in Paris. There will be no Rafael Nadal in the only clay-court Grand Slam event of the year. Nadal is the defending champion but the Spaniard was thrown out of the competition because he is not good enough to play a sport that is brutal on the body. In Nadal’s absence, all eyes will be on Serbia’s Novak Djokovic and new world number one Carlos Alcaraz. With Nadal out, this is a golden opportunity for Djokovic to win another Grand Slam and reach a record-breaking 23. Known as the ‘King of the Clay Court’, Nadal has 22 to his name. The only player who can stop Djokovic from surpassing Nadal is his compatriot Alcaraz.
