Taking inspiration from its successful anti-corruption campaign in Karnataka, the Madhya Pradesh Congress has taken inspiration and launched a similar campaign in the state, targeting the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. In Karnataka, the Congress managed to oust the BJP from power by taking advantage of various factors, including its effective “PACIM” and “40% government” campaigns, which alleged corruption under the saffron party’s rule. Now, taking a lesson from these handcuffs, Madhya Pradesh Congress has started a campaign against BJP called “50% commission government”.
To strengthen its campaign, the Congress has flooded the cities of Madhya Pradesh with posters bearing photographs of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan along with QR codes. Additionally, the party is actively promoting the campaign through its social media channels. The Congress said on its Twitter handle, “Shivraj’s corruption on the streets of Sehore. Bring 50%, get work done on the phone. The people of Madhya Pradesh know and recognize those who take 50% commission.”

It may be noted that Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi had launched the party’s election campaign for the Madhya Pradesh elections on June 12. Taking inspiration from Karnataka, Priyanka Gandhi also officially introduced five major election promises. The five promises include a financial scheme of Rs 1,500 per month, LPG cylinders at a subsidized rate of Rs 500, revival of the old pension scheme and free electricity up to 100 units.
The Congress party’s promise of monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,500 to each woman is aimed at countering the ‘Laadli Bahna Yojana’ launched by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, under which every eligible woman is getting Rs 1,000 per month. The subsidized LPG gas cylinder promise is aimed at countering the ‘Ujjwala Yojana’ launched by Prime Minister Modi. On the other hand, the promise of free electricity comes from the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) governance model.
Congress is also promising to restore the old pension scheme to woo lakhs of government employees. Priyanka had said in Jabalpur, “The Congress government has restored OPS in Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.” Elections will be held in Madhya Pradesh around December this year.
