It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover was previously adapted for a film with Sony Pictures. Directed by Justin Baldoni, the book adaptation will star Blake Lively and Baldoni himself. Previously, the casting of these actors had been criticized by book lovers as they expected someone young and fresh to play Ryle Kincaid and Lily Bloom. Now the news is coming that the production of this film has been stopped. Read further to know everything about the same.
It Ends With Us halts production indefinitely
On Thursday, it was decided that the production of It Ends With Us starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has been put on hold indefinitely pending the resolution of the WGA (Writers Guild of America) strike. The reason behind this decision was the producers’ inability to impress upon the WGA that the film be produced within WGA guidelines. Even though This Is Us ends with The Signer – a negative pickup for Sony Pictures, the makers stand by the fact that the film is co-financed by Wayfarer Studios.
This decision to stop the production of the film came when even half of the film was not completed. Earlier this week, it was reported by Deadline that It Ends With Us filming in New Jersey was temporarily halted following disruptions. The makers of the film tried to persuade the WGA but according to sources in the report, they were not agreeable.
It looks like the hiatus on It Ends With Us is going to be a long one as at this point AMPTP (the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers) and WGA negotiators aren’t even discussing it.
How has the hiatus of It Ends With Us affected the film crew?
As per reports, around 140 people are currently without jobs due to the halt of It Ends With Us production. The makers gave this news via email.
Speaking to Deadline, crew members of the film said that some people were upset because they enjoyed working with Justin Baldoni. He said, “It was a mix – people were upset because they enjoyed working with Justin. There was already tension about some of the ADs who were fired. People were sad but also respected the position of the WGA strike.” The more seclusion we can have with the WGA asking producers to talk to writers and get them back to the negotiating table, the faster everyone will get back to work.
Meanwhile, It’s With Us marked the first collaboration of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
