Aaron Greenberg, VP of Xbox Games Marketing, has made some bold claims about the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase, that much of the content shown will be in engine footage.
This is great news for Xbox Series X and PC gamers as it means that all the games coming to the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase should be largely representative of the playable end product. Greenberg wrote Twitter That: “none of our first party games at the show have full CG trailers” and “everything is either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or in-game footage with some cinematics”.
At a time when the industry has come under fire for vertical slices of gameplay displayed at Summer Games events, promising transparency into what we can expect is certainly commendable. Often times, games are shown as nothing more than full CG trailers that, while exciting in their own way, don’t quite convey the feel of their type. Showing actual in-engine footage would also indicate how far along these first party games are.
None of us is the first party game full CG trailer in the show. Everything is either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or in-game footage with some cinematics. Each of our trailers will be labeled so hopefully it is clear to our fans.June 4, 2023
It has been claimed that there will be a mix of in-game and in-engine footage with some smaller cinematics, so it remains to be seen how true this turns out to be on the day. Looking at recent examples from the first party of Xbox shows, such as red fall In 2021, which was showcased to the world during E3 2021 with the cinematic reveal trailer, taking a more direct approach and showing gameplay is definitely the right call.
It’s currently unknown how many first-party Xbox titles we’ll see at the event, but Microsoft previously tried a format where every game they showed off was playable within the next 12 months. It seems they are constantly trying to rebuild trust in their events through new formats.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds best xbox series x games are making their debut in the early stages. We’re bringing you everything you need to know about the Showcase event coming up next week.
