‘Football will remember this’ fans criticize PSG supporters for booing Lionel Messi in emotional final game

Lionel Messi’s supporters were left fuming and disappointed as a section of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fans booed the Argentine icon ahead of his final game for the club. The 35-year-old joined PSG on a free transfer in 2021, reluctantly departing from Barcelona after a storied career. During his two seasons with the French giants, Messi displayed his prowess, scoring 32 goals and providing 35 assists in 75 games across various competitions. His contributions played a key role in PSG’s victories in three tournaments, including two Ligue 1 titles.

However, despite his impressive performances, Messi had difficulties winning PSG’s faithful. The criticism came to the fore after PSG’s disappointing 3-2 aggregate defeat to Real Madrid in last season’s UEFA Champions League round of 16. Sadly, Messi’s departure turned bleak as he once again faced condemnation from the PSG faithful. Videos circulating on social media showed fans whistling and voicing their discontent when the forward’s name was announced before the game.

The reaction from PSG fans didn’t sit well with Messi’s loyal supporters. While the Argentine maestro weighs up his options, Barcelona remain keen to re-sign their prodigal son, considering lucrative offers from clubs such as Al-Hilal and Inter Miami. However, the Catalan club must overcome their financial constraints before any possible reunification can take place.
