Bengaluru: The Chief Minister of Karnataka expressed grief over the Odisha train accident on Saturday and ensured the safety of Kannadigas. Chief Minister’s Office tweeted, “Chief Minister Shri Siddaramaiah has appointed a team under the leadership of Minister Shri Santosh Lad to ensure the safety of Kannadigas in the Balasore train accident.” He directed the Chief Secretary and concerned officials to visit the spot to ensure the safety of Kannadigas and provide all necessary help to the victims of the train accident.
“In the matter of the horrific train accident that happened yesterday in the state of Odisha, the government there should take action and find out the causes of the accident. Steps should be taken to prevent another accident. May God give strength to the victim’s family.” For those who died in the accident to bear the pain,” Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar had said earlier.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Divakumar asked the Odisha government to find out the cause of the train collision on June 2. The death toll has risen to 261 and more than 900 have been injured. According to preliminary reports from the State Emergency Operation Center, more than 900 people have been injured. The toll rose to 261 from 238 as per reports.
Odisha train accident: Rescue operation underway
Seven National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, five Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) units and 24 fire services and emergency units are engaged in rescue operations. The Indian Air Force (IAF) deployed Mi-17 helicopters to evacuate the dead and injured. According to the Eastern Command, the IAF is coordinating rescue efforts with the civil administration and the Indian Railways.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav visited the spot and ordered a “high-level” inquiry and said measures would be taken to ensure such incidents do not happen in future. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also visited the accident site to take stock of the situation.
PM Modi in Balasore
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the crash site in Odisha on Saturday. He will take stock of one of the worst train accidents in recent memory, which according to the latest estimates has killed over 261 people and injured over 1000. PM Modi landed in an Air Force helicopter near the incident site at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district.
He will meet the injured at Balasore District Hospital to meet the survivors of the accident. Earlier today, PM Modi called a meeting to review the situation in connection with the train accident. The accident involved two passenger trains – the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, the Coromandel Express and a goods train on three separate tracks at Bahanaga Bazar station in Balasore district. Seventeen coaches of the passenger trains were derailed and seriously damaged in the accident that took place on Friday evening.
